인형극장은 오랜 시간 인형과 장인의 문화가 이어져 온 일본 닌교초(人形町)를 기반으로 활동하는 만화가이자 일러스트레이터, 아티스트 상고 모리모토(Sango Morimoto 森本 三吾)의 국내 개인전입니다.
아트인동산은 3년 전 일본 닌교초 거리축제 현장에서 라이브 페인팅을 선보이던 상고를 처음 만났습니다. 수많은 사람들로 북적이던 거리 한가운데에서 자신만의 세계를 펼쳐 보이던 그의 모습은 강한 인상을 남겼고, 그 만남은 오늘에 이르기까지 이어지고 있습니다. 현재 아트인동산은 상고 모리모토의 작품 세계를 한국에 지속적으로 소개하며 국내외 관람객들과 공유하고 있습니다.
국가도, 언어도, 세대도 달랐지만 예술에 대한 진심은 서로를 이해하기에 충분했습니다. 그렇게 시작된 인연은 작가와 갤러리의 관계를 넘어, 서로의 작업과 삶을 존중하는 동료로 성장해 왔습니다.
이번 전시의 제목인 인형극장은 작가가 활동하는 닌교초에서 착안한 이름이자, 상고가 만들어낸 작품 세계를 상징하는 하나의 무대입니다.
상고의 화면에는 광대와 소녀, 동물과 장난감, 그리고 상상 속 도시와 건축물들이 등장합니다. 현실과 환상이 자연스럽게 교차하는 그의 세계는 어린 시절의 동화 같은 기억을 떠올리게 하면서도, 어딘가 낯설고 서정적인 감정을 함께 불러냅니다.
마치 작은 인형극장의 배우들처럼 저마다의 역할을 가진 존재들은 웃음과 호기심, 순수함과 고독, 유머와 상상을 오가며 하나의 이야기를 만들어 갑니다. 화면 속 장면들은 정해진 결말을 이야기하지 않습니다. 대신 관람객 각자가 자신의 기억과 감정을 투영하며 새로운 이야기를 완성하도록 열어 둡니다.
인형극장은 한 작가의 작품 세계를 소개하는 전시이면서 동시에, 서로 다른 문화와 언어를 가진 사람들이 예술을 통해 만나고 연결되는 과정을 보여주는 전시입니다.
이 작은 무대에서 펼쳐지는 이야기들이 관람객 여러분에게 오래된 동심과 따뜻한 상상력을 다시 만나는 시간이 되기를 바랍니다.
Puppet Theater
Puppet Theater presents the work of Sango Morimoto, a manga artist, illustrator, and painter based in Ningyocho, Tokyo, Japan.
Three years ago, Art in Dongsan first encountered Sango during a street festival in Ningyocho, where he was creating a live painting amidst the bustling crowd. The unique world he unfolded in the middle of the street left a lasting impression, and that encounter has continued to this day.
Although we came from different countries, spoke different languages, and belonged to different generations, our shared sincerity and passion for art were enough to connect us. What began as a chance meeting has grown beyond the relationship between artist and gallery into a friendship built on mutual respect for each other's work and lives.
The exhibition title, Puppet Theater, is inspired by Ningyocho, the district where the artist works, while also symbolizing the imaginative stage that defines Sango's artistic universe.
His works are populated by clowns, young girls, animals, toys, and fantastical cities and architectures. Blurring the boundaries between reality and fantasy, his world evokes childhood memories and storybook-like imagination, drifting gracefully between familiarity and mystery.
Like performers in a small puppet theater, each character plays a unique role, carrying humor, curiosity, innocence, solitude, and poetic sensibility. Together they create narratives that continue beyond the canvas, inviting viewers to connect their own memories and emotions to the story.
Puppet Theater is a story of connection through art—transcending cultures, languages, and generations.

人形劇場
本展は、日本・東京の人形町を拠点に活動する漫画家、イラストレーター、アーティスト サンゴ・モリモト（Sango Morimoto 森本 三吾） の作品をご紹介する展覧会です。
アートインドンサンは3年前、人形町の街祭りでライブペインティングを行っていたサンゴと出会いました。多くの人々で賑わう街の中で、自らの世界を描き出していた彼の姿は強い印象を残し、その出会いは今日まで続いています。
国も言語も世代も異なりましたが、芸術に対する真摯な情熱はお互いを理解するのに十分でした。その縁は、アーティストとギャラリーという関係を超え、互いの作品と人生を尊重し合う仲間へと育っていきました。
展覧会タイトルである 人形劇場は、作家が活動する人形町に由来すると同時に、サンゴが創り出す独自の世界観を象徴する舞台でもあります。
作品の中には、道化師や少女、動物やおもちゃ、そして空想の都市や建築物が登場します。現実と幻想が自然に交差するその世界は、幼い頃の記憶や物語のような想像力を呼び起こし、親しさと不思議さの間を漂います。
まるで小さな人形劇場の役者たちのように、それぞれの存在はユーモアや好奇心、純粋さや孤独、そして叙情性を抱きながら一つの物語を紡いでいきます。その物語は鑑賞者の記憶や感情と重なり合い、新たな物語へと広がっていきます。
人形劇場は、文化や言語、世代を越えて芸術によって結ばれた一つの物語です。
この小さな舞台で広がるサンゴ・モリモトの世界が、皆さまに懐かしい童心と温かな想像力を思い出させる時間となれば幸いです。
