Jageun Art Museum presents 《Beautiful Challenge – Together Through Art》, an international art exchange exhibition featuring 37 artists with disabilities from Korea and Indonesia.

Bringing together works by 28 Korean artists and 9 Indonesian artists, the exhibition introduces distinctive artistic practices shaped by different cultural backgrounds and life experiences. Despite differences in nationality, language, and personal experience, the participating artists share a desire to express themselves and communicate with the world through art.

Rather than focusing on disability as a defining characteristic, 《Beautiful Challenge – Together Through Art》 highlights the individual perspectives and creativity of each artist. Everyday experiences and memories, imagination and dreams, and reflections on nature and life take shape through diverse colors and visual languages. Each work reveals the artist’s emotions, personal perspective, and unique ability to communicate through artistic expression.

The exhibition builds upon Art in Dongsan’s ongoing commitment to international cultural and artistic exchange. Through exhibitions and collaborative programs involving artists and students from Korea and abroad, Art in Dongsan has continued to create opportunities for people from different cultures to meet, connect, and collaborate through art.

One particularly meaningful aspect of this exhibition is how a modest act of giving through art developed into an international collaboration. In early 2026, Art in Dongsan donated two works by Indonesian artist Muhammad Salman Farisyi to Jahye School, establishing a connection with Jahenghoe. This encounter brought together arts professionals and organizations from Korea and Indonesia, whose shared efforts eventually led to an international exhibition featuring artists with disabilities from both countries.

Pesona Autistik Indonesia (PAI), an Indonesian arts community collaborating on this exhibition, supports the creative activities and cultural participation of artists with disabilities. Through exhibitions, live painting, music, dance, and other artistic programs, PAI continues to expand opportunities for artistic expression and participation.

Jahenghoe (慈行會) is a Korean nonprofit organization established in 1966 by Crown Princess Yi Bang-ja, the last Crown Princess of the Joseon royal family, to support people with disabilities. Through its affiliated institutions—Jahye School, Subong Rehabilitation Center, and Jahye Vocational Rehabilitation Center—Jahenghoe provides special education, vocational rehabilitation, and support for social inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities throughout different stages of life. The organization also carries out a range of welfare initiatives in collaboration with local communities.

Together with PAI, Jahenghoe, and other partner organizations in Korea and Indonesia, Art in Dongsan seeks to highlight the artistic abilities of artists with disabilities and to build upon this exhibition as a foundation for continued cultural and artistic exchange between the two countries.

The value of art lies not so much in who creates it, but in what the work communicates and the experiences and emotions it evokes in its audience.

《Beautiful Challenge – Together Through Art》 brings together diverse artistic perspectives and creative possibilities, creating opportunities for understanding and empathy across differences.

Through the distinctive artistic worlds presented by these 37 artists from Korea and Indonesia, we hope visitors will gain a deeper appreciation of disability arts and experience the meaningful connections and exchanges that art can inspire.
