Eunha Gallery (Art in Dongsan) is pleased to present "Art as a Mental Health Supplement," a solo exhibition by @Chunjastal, as the first invitational exhibition featuring a selected artist from the 2026 Art in Dongsan Open Call.

The subtitle, "Picked It Up on the Way Back from the Market," reflects the hope that paintings can be approached as naturally and comfortably as everyday items. Just as you might stop by the market and buy something you need, an unexpected encounter with a painting may brighten your day and bring a small smile.

We hope this exhibition encourages visitors to set aside the idea that art is difficult and instead enjoy paintings with ease and comfort. On days when your mind feels a little tired, we invite you to nourish it with a painting instead of a health supplement.

Artist's Note

I am @Chunjastal.

I have written for numerous children's books, including the well-known Why? series.

To be precise, I was someone who hid behind words while secretly longing to paint.

For nearly forty years, I concealed my desire for visual expression—without even realizing that I was hiding it.

Then one day, I discovered a single strand of hair that had been carefully tucked away.

As I pulled it, a much bigger desire suddenly sprang out.

The answer was simple:

To acknowledge my desire.

The moment I acknowledged it, the desire itself disappeared.

It became perfectly fine if I couldn't paint well.

It became perfectly fine if no one recognized my work.

So I simply began to paint.

Freely.

Joyfully.

Without hesitation.

That is why I call these works

"Art as a Mental Health Supplement."

My dream is to create paintings that people can pick up as naturally as everyday necessities—

just like buying something on the way back from the market.

전시소개

은하갤러리(아트인동산)는 2026년 상반기 아트인동산 작가공모 선정작가 초대전의 첫 번째 전시로, @춘자스탈 개인전 건강보조그림을 개최합니다.

부제인 시장 간 김에 샀어에는 그림도 일상의 물건처럼 부담 없이 가까이할 수 있기를 바라는 마음이 담겨 있습니다. 시장에 들렀다가 필요한 물건 하나를 사듯, 우연히 마주한 그림 한 점이 오늘의 기분을 바꾸고 작은 웃음을 선물할 수도 있습니다.

이번 전시가 예술을 어렵게 바라보는 시선을 내려놓고, 누구나 편안하게 그림을 즐기는 계기가 되기를 바랍니다. 마음이 조금 지친 날, 건강보조식품 대신 그림 한 점으로 마음을 채워보시기 바랍니다.

작가생각

@춘자스탈은

「Why?」 시리즈를 비롯해 다양한 어린이 도서의 글 작가입니다. 정확하게는 글 뒤에 숨어 그림을 욕망하던 인간입니다. 시각 매체를 향한 욕망을 글로 잘 숨겨온 인간. 다행히 스스로도 숨기고 있다는 것을 몰랐다는 거. 40년 동안. 그러다 꼭꼭 숨은 머리카락 한 올을 봐버렸죠.

그 머리카락을 당기자 커다란 욕망이 툭 하고 튀어 나왔고, 바로 "인정", "욕망 인정".

욕망을 인정하는 순간 욕망은 사라지고, 못 그려도 괜찮고, 인정받지 않아도 괜찮은 그림을 막 그리기 시작했습니다.

즐겁고, 신나고, 재미있고...

그러므로

건강보조그림!

생활필수그림을 꿈꾸며~
